Help Haiti Now: Christian Earthquake Relief Efforts
The devastation from the January 12 magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck about ten miles southwest of the Hatian capital of Port-au-Prince is, for most of us, unimaginable. With the death toll officially at 70,000 as of Tuesday morning, it is expected to rise to more than 100,000. According to aid workers, 3 million people are now homeless and without food, water or basic sanitation. To put that number in perspective, Port-au-Prince's population prior to the quake was estimated at 4 to 4.5 million people.

Governmental and non-governmental organizations all over the world are asking for money to help the people of Haiti. Unfortunately, a number of scam artists are also trying to take advantage of people's willingness to give in times of dire need. We wanted to compile a list of well-known, reputable Christian charities that are "on the ground" in Haiti, getting people the help they need, often in spite of government bureaucracies.
